Saxe Thuringen Infantry Officer Pickelhaube
A rare regimental helmet
95th-153rd Saxe-Thuringian Infantry Regiments-Officer Model 1897. Black lacquered fiber helmet body with beautiful gilded brass trim. Gilting is about 100% remaining close top MINT. The helmet body in also in near mint condition with firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is in near perfect condition with a shiny exterior finish. One slightly enlarged hole in the helmet body (see pictures). The helmet interior has sweat leather and silk headliner. The headliner is in excellent condition but there are some small tears (see interior photos). Sweat band stamped in Gold with Makers Mark "Depaheg Patent"
The inner visors are red and green as is normal for officer helmets.The frontplate for the helmet is the Prussian style line eagle with the banner “Mit Gott fur Fuerst und Vaterland”. On the eagle’s breast is a silver star with the Coat of Arms of Saxe-Thuringia in the center. The back side of the plate as some old solder marks that show a repair to the right fixture (see photos). Gilt Officer style round spike and base. Gold stars secure the spike base to helmet body. Flat style chinscales on gold rosettes. Standard Reichs and green and silver Saxe-Thuringia cockades. All original and rare regimental helmet. This one will be difficult to upgrade.
