French model 1825 Dragoon Officer Helmet - RARE

Original Fire Gilting to Shell

Tall "a la Minerve" Officers Helmet shell in cooper with about 70% of its original un-polished fire gilting. Shell is in overall great condition (almost 200 years old) with a few dings that can be seen on the picture. Tall nicely "stamped out" Cimier of officers grade with beautiful detail topped with the typical black horsehair crest and tail that is also period to this helmet. Medusa Head and "Palmette" design are also typical to this model.

A black horsehair Marmouset tops of the whole helmet and is affixed through the cimier.. The front bandeau that surounds the whole helmet is also made of finely stamped out brass with the "peblled" officer's design.  A flaming grenade in its center surrounded by laurel and oak leaves. The chinscales are the "8" shaped chains finely ciselled individualy mouted to a "Rosace" and held by ciselled screws (typical to Officer Helmet). Note that the screw holding the chincscale have been soldered to the helmet shell for repair on a later date. Inside officers liner is in two parts, complete and remains supple for its age. Both visor bear their original "basane" lining underneath. Tall Red Coq feather plume that is a later replacement.

A RARE helmet to find in such a great untouched condition. Most we have seen have been totaly polished through the ages.
