Hanoverian 78th "Waterloo" Enlisted Infantry Regt. Pickelhaube

Beautiful marking of the Ostfriesisches Inf. Regt.

Prussian/Hanoverian 165th “Waterloo” Infantry Regiment Enlisted Man Model 1895. Fine untouched helmet. Black lacquered leather helmet with brass trim. Helmet body in excellent to near mint shape with firm stitching. NO extra holes in helmet body and the plate fits to a perfect fit. Original leather pieces still present. We did NOT try to remove. Interior black dyed leather liner is complete and still supple. Inside back visor is stamped “I B” and "4 C".  The 165th was stationed in Osnabrück & Aurich.

Inside the top bell of the helmet are the Regimental markings in white paint "O.J.R. 78" and dated "1899". That marking means Ostfriesisches Infantry Regt. 78. The helmet front plate is the Line Prussian Eagle with the banner “Waterloo” for their service at the great battle. The helmet plate is stamped in two pieces. The Eagle is held to the helmet body with original leather wedges. Brass spike and base with domed retainers. No leather chinstrap or cockades. Beautiful helmet with fantastic Provenance.
