Mecklenburg Schwerin Dragoon Helmet Model 1848

**RARE**Mecklenburg Schwerin Dragoon Regiment Officer Model 1848. From a prestigious US collection. Mecklenburg Schwerin Grand Duke Frederick Francis II, who was an ardent advocate of German unity and held a high command in her armies also promoted the course of the German unification. He patterned the Dragoon Regiment helmet after the Prussian M1843 Kurassier helmet *see photos from Jean Louis Larcade book “Casques a Pointe- Volume 2 Troupes a Cheval, page 114).

Nickeled steel helmet body with gilt brass trim. Squared front visor. The frontplate is the gilded rising star on which is placed the Mecklenburg Schwerin coat of arms. Crossed spike on which is mounted the classic Mecklenburg Schwerin fluted spike with ball on top. Rounded chinscales on plain rosettes. Single Officer cockade. Plain pointed tab leather liner. Some tears in leather (see photo). Beautiful and elegant kurassier style helmet. Extremely RARE. We have seen photo of the helmet and in a museum but we have never actually held this in our hands.
