Hessen Infantry Regt. #168 Enlisted Pickelhaube
Named to The wearer.
Black lacquered leather helmet shell in excellent condition and shape. No lacquer loss or crazing. Helmet is of the 1867 pattern which was reissued in 1891 and fitted with the M91 posts and back spine. Firm stitching to both visors. The frontplate is the Hessen Lion fixed with screw and nut. A set of tiny holes is visible over the existing holes most likely from a prior plate. Hessen style cross base with hessen spike that unscrews on the top, maintained by round brads.
Original Leather strap and both original Cockades. Inside lining remains supple with some age marks, but complete and nice. Inside tag reads "Muskettier LAUER 2. Komp. 5. GrossHerz. Hess. Infant. Regt. Nu. 168". This regiment was stationned in Offenbach. The front visor also bears the name of the maker H.Müller in Offenbach! A nice and original Hessen helmet.
