Imperial Saxe-Coburg-Gotha police commander Pickelhaube

Imperial Police Commanders helmet from Saxe Coburg Gotha circa 1900. All original period helmetLarge black lacquered leather officer style helmet with silver trim. Helmet has good gorm and excellent stitching. Exterior lacquer finish is lightly crazed throughout due to aging, but no lacquer loss. The interior of the helmet has officer style sweat leather and silk headliner. Interior visors colored red and green as is normal with officer helmets.

Frontplate is the Saxon coat of arms mounted by a Royal crown that is flanked by 2 lions. All metal trim is silver. Traditional police style cross bass with spike that is surmounted by a ball (see photos). One round stud appears larger than the other 3 (see photo). Flat chinscales on rosettes. Single Saxon style no serrated cockade on right side of helmet. Saxe Coburg Gotha was the home of Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria of England.
