Prussian Field Artillery "FRW" Officers Pickelhaube

Only 4 Regiments wore this Helmet

Prussian Field Artillery Officer for Regiment 1,2,3 and 6, Model 1897.  We just found this at the Max Show in York, PA.  The helmet is the standard black lacquered leather helmet body with all gilt metal trim. Helmet body in excellent condition with firm stitching.  Exterior lacquer is matte with age but still is shiny.  No extra holes in helmet body.  Interior has sweat leather and silk headliner.

Inner visors red and green as is normal for officer helmets.  The frontplate for the helmet is the Line Prussian Eagle with the monogram FWR on the eagles chest.  The helmet has a Standard Officer spike base with a ball on top for artillery regiment.  The base is  secured to the helmet body with stars.  Convex chinscales on rosettes. Officer Reichs and Prussian cockades. Outstanding helmet.  Quite rare as there were only 4 regiments  who wore this frontplate for Foot Artillery.
